Bending Brake

11-11-01 ~~ The Bending Brake is complete, except for the paint. Here is how Larry built it.

This is a view of the bending brake that I am building.

I used pillow block bearings for the pivot points.

It works very smoothly.

Edge of leaf ground down for 1/8" radius at edge.

This is how I ground the edge of the 4x4x3/8 angle iron leaf. Once it was close to final dimension I draw filed it to get everything smooth. It's a lot of work building one of these things.

This is the back of the brake. This is one of the pins that lift and clamp the upper leaf.

The foot pedals that lift and clamp. My foot is on the one that lifts up.

Step on the clamping pedal and lift the hand bar up to bend a sheet.

This shows how far the pedal lifts up the upper leaf. My fingers are under the leaf.

Here is a 1/2" U Channel bent with the brake.

The bending brake finished.
