I belong to a wonderful group of ladies called Women of Inner Beauty and Strength (WOSIB) and one of the members has some Heart Adoptables on her site. When I saw what she had, I just had to write Trish and ask if I could write a tutorial so others could have the opportunity to make their own. Trish graciously granted me permission and I do hope you will visit her site and view her wonderful Adoptables HERE. (Unfortunately her site is no longer available.)

This tutorial is done using only PSP, and although I do use a Super Blade Pro preset for my test it is not necessary for you to do so. JASC also has some wonderful Valentines tubes that you may wish to download from their site HERE.

This tutorial is written in and for PSP Version 7.04 and assumes you have a working knowledge of PSP at an intermediate - advanced level. I am sure this can easily be done in Version 6 with a few adjustments in paths but I have only used Version 7 so I can't make promises *S*

You will need:

JASC's PSP (30 day free trial)- You can get it HERE
My Gold gradient ~~ You can get it HERE
**unzip into your PSP Gradients folder
My Inner Bevel Preset ~~ You can download it HERE
**unzip into your PSP Presets Folder

Step 1:
Open a new image 600x600, 16 million colors, transparent background. We will resize it later but I have the large size so we can better see what we are doing. Don't forget to save your work often!

Step 2:
Add a new layer. We will be making 3 hearts with different fills. You can use any fill that you like for your hearts, I will be showing you what I used. Set your foreground to the MD-Gold Gradient, Radial Gradient Style as below. I set my background to color #F2BABA for my first heart.

Step 3:
Choose your Presets tool, , and scroll down to the hearts. I used Heart1.

Set your line width to 10, antialias checked, retain style and create as vector UNchecked.

Draw out your first heart in the upper, right hand side of your image. Similar to this: (Yours will be larger as this is resized for easier loading on you)

Go to Effects-->3D-->InnerBevel and add the md-frame1 preset. Save.

Step 4:
Add a new layer and add a tube of your choice. For this tutorial I used the Colored Roses tube from JASC. Hide layer one (click on the eyeglasses and it will place an X on the layer). Make sure you are on the top layer, go to Layers-->Merge-->Merge Visible. Rename the merged layer Heart1. Save.

Step 5:
Go to Images-->Rotate and rotate your heart 25 degrees to the right. Make sure that all layers is UNchecked.

Step 5:
Add a new layer. Change your background color to another fill. I used color #000080. Go to your presets and draw out a heart on the upper left hand side of your canvas.

Go to Effects-->3D-->InnerBevel and add the md-frame1 preset. Save.

Step 6:
Add a new layer and we will add some text to this heart. I made my foreground Null and changed my background to White. You can use any color that you want, I used white because I added a SBP preset. Click on your text tool, and type in what you want it to say. I used the Tinker Toy Font, set at 48 and typed in "A Rose".

Click OK. While still selected I added Super Blade Pro preset - Gold Glitter. Keep selected.

Step 7:
Go to Effects-->3D-->Inner Bevel and add the same inner bevel. Keep Selected. Go to Effects-->3D-->Drop Shadow and add the following settings:

Deselect and Save.

Step 8:
Go to your layer palette and hide layer1 and heart1. Make sure you are on the top layer and go to Layers-->Merge-->Merge Visible. Rename the merge layer heart2. You can open the other layers. While on the heart2 layer, go to Images-->rotate and rotate your heart2 to the LEFT, 25 degrees.

Step 9:
Add a new layer. Change your foreground back to your gold gradient. For the background this time I used the Craggy pattern, that comes with PSP7, set at 50%.

Go back to your presets and draw a heart out in between the heart1 and heart2.

Go to Effects-->3D-->Inner Bevel and apply the same inner bevel that we have been using. Save. Add a new layer and add what text you want on this heart. I used 4 You. Apply the same inner bevel and drop shadow to your text. Go to your layer palette and hide layer1, heart1, and heart2. Make sure you are on the top layer and go to Layers-->Merge-->Merge Visible. Rename this layer Heart 3. Save.

Step 10:
We are going to add one more smaller heart at the bottom of our canvas. Add a new layer, name it heart4. Make sure your foreground is set to the gold gradient and your background to the same fill as heart3. Pick up your preset shapes tool and change the line width size to 5. Draw out a small heart in the middle, bottom of your canvas like this.

Step 11:
We are now going to draw some strings from your larger hearts to the bottom heart. Set your foreground to the md-gold gradient and your background to Null. Pick up your draw tool, , set at freehand line size 6.

Go to your layer palette and hilight layer1. Add a new layer and name it string1. Draw a line from the bottom tip of your heart1 to the middle of your bottom heart. Now we are going to add a little wave to your string. Go to Effects-->Geometric Effects-->Wave and add the following settings.

Go to Effects-->3D-->Inner Bevel and apply the following Inner Bevel.

Save!

Step 12:
Hilite heart1 on your layer palette, add a new layer and name it string2. Draw a line from your heart2 to the middle of your bottom heart, apply the wave and inner bevel as above. Save.

Step 13:
Hilite heart 2 on your layer palette, add a new layer and name it string3. Draw a line from your heart3 to the middle of your bottom heart, apply the wave and inner bevel as above. Save.

Step 14:
You now have your Heart Bouquet. Hide layer1, make sure you are on the top layer and go to Layers-->Merge-->Merge Visible. As I said earlier in this tutorial, we will now resize our bouquet to make it more acceptable for your website or for sending in to your graphics groups. Go to Images-->Resize and resize 50%. When you resize your graphic you lose the clarity, so go to Effects-->Sharpen-->Sharpen and the clarity will return.

Step 15:
You can now save this as a gif or tube it. If you like you can add a background and frame and save as a jpg. If you want to add a background, hilite your layer1 and floodfill with what you would like. You can add a border to make it a frame if you like also.

Here are a couple of others I did ~~ one as a gif and one with the background.

The PSP Magic group used this tutorial as one of their lessons and the results were outstanding! If you would like to view what they did, just click HERE.

I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial as much as I did creating it.
