Sinedots II Dreamcatcher

As I was fooling around with Sinedots II and presets I made a scribble and played with it to see what I could come up with. I brought it into VM Distortion - Kaleidoscope and was really surprised! I ended up making this dreamcatcher. VM (Visual Manipulation) is authored by Mario Klingemann, it is a free filter and he no longer has it available on his website. I have been given permission to have this as a download for you but it is quite large as it contains ALL of the VM filters. The download is 3.5 megs and I did want you to be aware of that.

This tutorial is written in and for PSP Version 7.04 and assumes you have a working knowledge of PSP and filters at an intermediate level. I am sure this can easily be done in Version 6 with a few adjustments in paths but I have only used Version 7 so I can't make promises *S* Remember to save your work often!

You will need:

JASC's PSP (30 day free trial)- You can get it HERE
Sinedots II ~~ You can get it HERE
**If this is the first time using the Sinedots II filter then create a new folder in your Plugins Folder and unzip your Sinedots II into this folder.
VisMan ~~ You can get it HERE

**unzip into your Plugins Folder
My Scribble Preset ~~ You can get it HERE
**Unzip into your folder you have made for your Sinedots II.
My Feather tube ~~ You can get it HERE or you can go to my feather tutorial and make your own!
Linda's CowHideWood ~~ You can get it HERE
**unzip into your PSP Patterns folder. I would like to thank Linda for allowing me to use her wood pattern for my tutorial. You can see her CowHide Tutorial HERE

Okay, now that we have all of that out of the way, let's get this show on the road!

Step 1:
Open a new image, 400 x 400; 16 million colors and a transparent background. Set your foreground color to black and floodfill your layer.

Step 2:
Add a new layer. Go to Effects-->Plugins-->Dragonfly-->SinedotsII. Towards the bottom of your screen you will see this:

Press open and navigate to your Sinedots folder and open the md-scribble preset. Press the drop down arrow and click on scribble.

Click OK and you should have this on your screen now. **Please note that my screenshots are shown at 50% for quicker loading. Your image will be much larger.

Step 3:
Go to Effects-->Plugins-->VM Distortion-->Kaleidoscope and use the default settings.

Your scribble turned into a nice doily *smiles* which I turned into a dreamcatcher.

Step 4:
Go to Image-->Resize and resize your layer by 50%. Make sure the Resize All Layers is UNchecked.

Step 5:
Go to Effects-->Sharpen-->Sharpen

Step 6:
Add a new layer. Change your foreground color to white and your background to null. Open your preset shapes set at Ellipse, Line Width = 6, Antialias Checked, Vectors UNchecked.

Step 7:
Starting at coordinates 100,100 draw an ellipse to coordinates 300,300.

Step 8:
Change your foreground to pattern and navigate to the CowHideWood and say OK.

Step 9:
Go to Selections -->Select All (Ctrl+A), Selections-->Float Flood fill with your Wood and keep selected. Go to Effects-->3D-->Inner Bevel and apply the following settings:

Deselect and Save. (You have been saving haven't you?) This is what you should have now.

Step 10:
Hide layer 1 (the layer that you flood filled with black), make sure you are on layer 3 and go to Layers-->Merge-->Merge all visible. You can un-hide layer 1 now. Save! With your mover tool move your merged layer up to the top of your screen so we can add the strings.

Step 11:
Add a new layer. Pick up your draw tool set at single line; line width 4; antialias checked; create as vector and close path UNchecked.

Step 12:
Draw 3 straight lines, holding your shift key down as you draw the line will keep them straight. I drew 1 on each side and a longer one in the middle. They look pretty dark, especially against the black background. Go to Colors-->Adjust-->Gamma Correction set at 1.50 Link Checked.

Step 13:
Now it's time to add some beads and feathers to our dreamcatcher and we will be done. I used the a beads tube and I unfortunately do not remember where I picked them up at. The Colored Spheres and 3D Orbs from JASC work nicely also. If you have made my feather tutorial make sure that you tube it. If you are using my feather then open it in PSP and export it to a tube. I put all of my beads on separate layers so I could move them on the string easily. Open your tubes and find your Beads. Set the scale to 30 and add your beads. Here is how I have mine.

Step 14:
Add a new layer and get your feather tube. Set the scale to 40 and place on your image. Go to Image-->Flip. With your mover tool move your feather to the bottom of your first string.

Step 15:
Go to your layer palette and duplicate your feather layer. Move the feather over to your third string.

Step 16:
Add a new layer and set the scale on your feather to 30 and apply to your image. Go to Image-->Flip and move the feather below your long middle string.

Step 17:
Hide layer 1 (the layer that you flood filled with black), make sure you are on your top layer and go to Layers-->Merge-->Merge all visible. You can un-hide layer 1 now. Save!

Step 18:
You can now tube your dreamcatcher or put it on a background. To tube your dreamcatcher make sure you are on the merged layer. With your magic wand click on the black background, go to Selections -->Invert and you will have the marching ants around your dreamcatcher:

Go to Edit-->Copy (Ctrl+C) and then Edit-->Paste->As New Image (Ctrl+V) and you can then export it to a tube.
