Not only do we have Preset Shapes provided from
JASC there is a new Shapes Tool that allows you to create your own
shapes, edit them and save for future use. Of course you can still
use the Pen tool for drawing an object, but now there is a Rectangle
Tool, Ellipse tool and Symmetric Shape tool that is grouped together
on your Tools Toolbar along with the Preset Shapes tool.

When chosing the Rectangle Tool you can choose
from creating a rectangle or a square shape. Please see the screenshot
below of the partial tool options palette.

You can choose to Show Nodes which will display
the objects nodes during the creation. If you choose to create as
vector by checking Create on Vector and you can choose the radii of
the objects corners.
Choosing the Ellipse Tool allows you to draw
an ellipse or draw a circle. Again, you have the option to Show Nodes
or Create on Vector.

My favorite new shape tool is the Symmetric
Tool. On the tool options palette you can choose to draw polygon or
draw stellated (star). Below is the partial tool options palette for
drawing polygon.

I really enjoy the Stellated myself. The graphic
at the top of this page shows several different stellated shapes in
different sizes and radii. What an easy way to make your own Sparkles!
Here is a partial shot of the tool options palette.

You can change the number of sides on your shape
and the radius, you can choose to have it created with rounded inner
corners, rounded outer corners or both. Below is an example using
5 sides with the default radius of 38. I show you how your object
will look without choosing either of the rounded options, using the
inner, using the outer, and using both.

The possibilies are endless. Also, if you choose
to create as vector you can edit these objects by clicking on the
edit icon,
, on
your tool options palette.
I hope this helps to show you a bit of what
you can achieve by using the new Shapes Tools.
