Everyone loves frames and masks, and I enjoy creating them. The
mask used in this tutorial is one that I made quite some time ago
~~ I do hope you enjoy using it. This tutorial will also only be using
JASC PSP's applications, there are no additional plug-in filters for
you to download.
What I am discovering about this tutorial is that the outcome
is different depending on the graphic and colors that you use, as
you will see with my testers results as shown below. Remember
there is no right way or wrong way when doing any of my tutorials,
they are here for you as guidelines. Please feel free to make them
your own.
This tutorial is written in and for PSP Version 7 and assumes
you have a working knowledge of PSP. I am sure this can easily be
done in Version 6 with a few adjustments in paths but I have only
used Version 7 so I can't make promises *S*
You will need:
JASC's PSP (30 day free trial)- You can get it HERE
My Carved Frame Mask ~~ You can get it HERE
**unzip into your PSP Masks Folder
A graphic ~~ I used the one below. I do not know who the artist is,
so if anyone recognizes it and can let me know I would appreciate
it so I can write to the artist. If you would like to use the
graphic that I used please right click on the graphic and save to
your hard drive.

Step 1:
Open your graphic in PSP and make a copy of it (Shift+D). The main
reason for making a copy is in case I want to use the image again
and forget to change the name when I save *S* You can close out your
original graphic. Remember to save often.
Step 2:
Set your foreground color to a complementing color from your graphic.
I used #FDBAB9. Set your background color to #A67C6C.
Step 3:
First we are going to add the mask. Add a new layer to your graphic
and flood fill with your foreground color.
Step 4:
Go to Mask -->Load from Disk and find your MD-CarvedFrameMask and
press open. I know it looks funny but we will fix it.
Step 5:
Go to Mask -->Invert and it will now look like this.
Much better don't you think?
Step 6:
Go to Masks -->Delete and again answer yes to merging into current
layer. SAVE
It's pretty in its own right but lets add a frame
to it.
Step 7:
Go to layers-->merge-->merge flatten.
Step 8:
Go to Images-->Add Border Make sure that symmetric is checked and
add a border of 10.
Step 9:
Take your magic wand (tolerance and feather set at 0) and select the
brown border -- you will get marching ants around the border.
Step 10:
Go to Effects-->Reflection Effects-->Pattern and use the following
selections:
Keep Selected.
Step 11:
Go to Selections --> Invert and add the following cutout (Effects-->3D-->Cutout)
Keep selected and add another cutout, this time changing the vertical
and horizontal offsets to minus 10. Keep selected.
Step 12:
Go to Selections -->Invert and apply an Inner Bevel (effects-->3D-->Inner
Bevel) with these selections:
Deselect and Save
Step 13:
Add another border with the size of 15 this time. Grab that magic
wand and get the marching ants around it. Go to Effects-->Texture
Effects-->Straw Wall and apply the following settings:
Deselect and Save.
Step 14:
Time to add one last border with the size of 10. Don't forget to get
the marching ants around the border and then add the pattern effect
once more.
Step 15:
Go to Selections --> Invert and apply the same cutout that we did
earlier using both plus 10 for the vertical and horizontal offsets
and once again changing those offsets to minus 10. Keep selected.
Step 16:
Go to Selections-->Invert and apply the following Drop Shadow (Effects-->3D-->Drop
Shadow):
Keep selected and add the same Inner Bevel as before.
You're done! I really like the effect that this made
and I also did one without using the Inner Bevel. The picture was
also wider and smaller in height ~~ you can see the difference the
same instructions have depending on the graphic you use and the applications
that are applied.

I enjoy doing for others
and people seem to like what
I have here. I am hoping that
at least some of you will donate
what they feel my work and time
is worth to them. Just click
