I love experimenting and making new frames and this frame is the first one I have made without using borders and is an excellent one to store in your PSP frames folder to use over and over again. I will show you how to save the frame and also how you can change the color of your frame when using it on a graphic that just won't match with your original color. The filters that are included for you is the Pool Shadow by Greg's Factory Outlet Volume II. This is a free filter and unfortunately Greg's homepage seems to be AWOL at the moment, but I do have the pool shadow in a zip for you. If you want to colorize the way I did it you will also need Harry's Filters and I have included a link to get to the site for download.

This tutorial is written in and for PSP Version 7 and assumes you have a working knowledge of PSP at an intermediate/advanced level. I am sure this can easily be done in Version 6 with a few adjustments in paths but I have only used Version 7 so I can't make promises *S*

You will need:

JASC's PSP (30 day free trial)- You can get it HERE
Greg's Pool Shadow ~~ You can get it HERE
Harry's Filter ~~ You can get it HERE
**unzip both of these into your Plugin Folder
My Turquoise Gradient ~~ You can get it HERE
My Gold Gradient ~~ You can get it HERE
**unzip both gradients into your PSP Gradient Folder

Step 1:
Open a new image 300x400, 16 million colors, transparent background. Set your foreground color to the MD-Turquoise gradient that you just unzipped, or a gradient of your choice.

Step 2:
Add a new layer and flood fill with your gradient. Go to Selections-->Select All or Ctrl+A.

Step 3:
Go to Selections-->Modify-->Contract change the setting to 35 and press OK. Press your Delete key and you now have an open area for your graphic when applied. Keep Selected!

Step 4:
Add a new layer. Go to Effects-->3D-->Cutout and apply the following selections:

You may now deselect and save your image.

Step 5:
Activate Layer 2. We are going to be doing a lot on this layer without deselecting, remember to save (Ctrl+S) often. Go to your Selection Tool with the settings of Rectangle; Feather - 0; Antialias UNchecked and draw a rectangle from coordinates 20,20 to 280,380. Release your mouse button and select the narrow edge of the gradient. Your marching ants will be around that narrow strip. Keep selected.

Step 6:
Change your foreground color to your Gold Gradient. Flood Fill the marching ants area with your gradient. Keep selected and save.
Your graphic will show the white area shown here as transparent. It is only white on this page because I have saved it as a jpg. You will also have your marching ants showing *S*

Step 7:
Go to Effects-->Plugins-->Greg's Factory Output Vol. II-->Pool Shadow and apply the following settings. Keep Selected and Save.

Step 8:
Go to Effects-->3D-->Inner Bevel and chose the following selections. Keep Selected and Save.

Step 9:
Go to Selections-->Invert Your marching ants will now be around the gradient part of your frame. Keep Selected and Save.

Step 10:
Go to Effects-->Texture Effects-->Fine Leather and apply the following settings. Keep Selected and Save.

Step 11:
Apply the same inner bevel as above. You can now deselect!

Again yours will show the inside of your frame as transparent instead of the white. Go to Layers-->Merge-->Merge Visible

We are done with this part of the tutorial and will now save this into your frames folder so you can use it in the future. It is very important that you follow these steps and save with the proper extension when you get to your frames folder to save your frame.

Step 12:
Go to Files-->Save As A window will appear, you need to go to the drop down menu and choose your C: Drive (or whatever drive you have your PSP on) and choose Program Files; Jasc Software Inc.; Paint Shop Pro 7; and your Frames folder. Type in a name for your frame in the File name box (I used md-leather) and add the extension .pfr Your window should look like I have below and then press save.

Step 13:
Now it's time to test this out and make sure that you have saved your frame properly. Open a graphic that you would like to frame. Go to Images-->Picture Frame and the Picture Frame Wizard will come up on your screen. Using the drop down menu choose the frame that you just made. Press next.

Step 14:
Choose either inside the image or outside the image (I usually choose outside but that is entirely your choice).

Press Finish and this is what you should have.

Go to Layers-->Merge-->Merge Visible

I know what you're thinking **grins** You're thinking that this doesn't look like the Image that I have on the top of the page, what's different? I added an illumination effect. You can leave your framed picture as is or you can add the illumination by doing this. Go to Effects-->Illumination Effects-->Lights and either use my settings below or play around with the settings to what you like.

Here are a couple of others that I have done using this frame and the illumination. It really depends on the graphic that you choose as to how the lighting will show for the end result.

I said at the beginning of the tutorial that I would have directions for changing the color of your frame without having to remake it. Here are the instructions for doing that.

Step 1:
With your graphic and frame in place choose your Magic Wand and set the tolerance to about 80. Press the colored area of your frame and you will get marching ants around it (there might be a couple of areas on the leather that have a few marching ants around it but that's okay).

Step 2:
Go to Effects-->Plugins--Harry's Filters--Harry's Filters and choose colorize from the drop down menu. I then just keep pressing Randomize until I get the color that I want and press OK. Below are two that I colorized one with the lights and one without.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial as much as I did making it for you. A big thank you goes to my testers Anneli and Elkay, without them checking for any mistakes these tutorials would not be possible.
