I was inspired to do this tutorial while I was at the Plugin Party
website. Sandy Blair, the creator of the Neu Filter, wondered if anyone
has any uses for this filter and hadn't seen any tutorials using them.
He then sent out a challenge to create something worthwhile with Neu!
Needless to say I love a challenge, and this tutorial was born.
This tutorial is written in and for PSP Version 7.04 and assumes
you have a working knowledge of PSP and filters at an intermediate
level. I am sure this can easily be done in Version 6 with a few adjustments
in paths but I have only used Version 7 so I can't make promises *S*
You will need:
JASC's PSP (30 day free trial)- You can get it HERE
Neu Filters ~~ You can get it HERE
**unzip into your plugins folder
My Turquoise Gradient ~~ You can get it HERE
**unzip into your PSP Gradients folder
20/20 (optional)- You can get it HERE
Step 1:
Open a new image 300 x 300, 16 million colors, transparent background.
Set your foreground color to white and flood fill your layer.
Step 2:
Go to Effects-->Plugins-->Neu-->Sonderangebot and apply the
default setting. (Note: If you have your filters in Filters Unlimited
go to effects-->plugins-->ICNET-->filters unlimited and find
your filter) Don't forget to save your work frequently.
Step 3:
Go to layers-->duplicate. While on the copy of layer one go to
Effects-->Geometric Effects-->Circle. You should have this:

Step 4:
Go to Effects-->Geometric Effects-->Pinch and apply the following
settings:

Step 5:
Save your work and apply the Geometric Pinch once more. On this layer
you should have applied the circle once and the pinch twice. Save
your work.
Step 6:
Go to Selections-->Select All (Ctrl+A); Selections-->Float (Ctrl+F);
Selections-->Promote to layer.
Step 7:
Go to layers-->duplicate. You should now have layer 1; copy of
layer 1; Promoted selection; and copy of promoted selection.
Step 8:
Go to your layer palette and activate Layer 1. Go to Edit-->Cut
(or press your delete key). This is what you should have now. Save!

Step 9:
Set your foreground styles to gradient and choose my tourquoise gradient,
or a gradient of your choice, and use the Sunburst option.

Flood fill your layer and save.

Step 10:
Here's where the magic comes in. Go to your layer palette and set
each layer to the following blend modes.
Layer 1 = Multiply
Copy of Layer 1 = Burn
Promoted Selection = Screen
Copy of Promoted Selection = Screen

Voila! This is what we have.

Step 11:
Go to Layers-->Merge-->Visible. To tube your star, pick up your
magic wand with the tolerance set at 50; feather 0; sample merged
Unchecked and click on the background. Go to selections-->invert
and you will have the marching ants around your star. Copy (Ctrl+C)
and then paste as a new image (Ctrl+V). You can now export your star
to a tube. After exporting you can close your pasted copy or save
it as a gif.
I was going to make the star on the gradient into
a seamless background for this page but really liked the way it turned
out much better as a graphic. To get this effect go to Step 12.

Step 12:
Save your original star on the gradient background as a .jpg file.
Open 20/20 and go to File-->Open. Find the image you saved
and bring it up.
Step 13:
Open Image
and it will bring you to another toolbar where you can select Seamless
Tile.
Click
on Seamless Tile and it will convert it to the above graphic. I thought
it really looked nice.
Step 14:
Go to File-->SaveAs and name your new file. Make sure you UNcheck
the append to existing file in case you want to keep your original
image for another use. Now you can go back to PSP and frame
your first graphic if you like.
I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial as much as
I have creating it for you.
