The holiday season is fast approaching and one of my favorite things
are beautiful eggs. After doing the Neu Glass Star
tutorial I was curious as to other things that I could do with the Neu
filters and was very pleased that they can be colorized quite nicely
using Harry's Filters. I also use the VisMan Distortion Center Mirror
filter. Those of you who have done my tutorials before will have these
filters already, especially the VM filters as I use these quite frequently
lately. I also used Flaming Pear's Silver filter which is part of their
Designer Sextet series. You can download it and try it out for 2 weeks
before you have to purchase it. It has a lot of fun filters in the series.
This tutorial is written in and for PSP Version 7.04 and assumes
you have a working knowledge of PSP and filters at an intermediate level.
I am sure this can easily be done in Version 6 with a few adjustments
in paths but I have only used Version 7 so I can't make promises *S*
You will need:
JASC's PSP (30 day free trial)- You can get it HERE
Flaming Pear's Designer Sextet Series ~~ You can get the trial download
HERE
Neu Filters ~~ You can get it HERE
VisMan ~~ You can get it HERE
Harry's Filters ~~ You can get it HERE
**unzip into your Plugins Folders. I would suggest creating a separate
folder for each filter.
Holly Tube (optional) ~~ You can get it HERE
Step 1:
Open a new image 400 x 400, 16 million colors, transparent background.
Set your foreground color to white and flood fill your layer.
Step 2:
Go to Effects-->Plugins-->Neu-->Lila Engle and apply the default
setting. (Note: If you have your filters in Filters Unlimited go to
effects-->plugins-->ICNET-->filters unlimited and find your
filter) Don't forget to save your work frequently.

Step 3:
Go to Effects-->Plugins-->VisMan-->Distortion-->Center Mirror
and use the default settings.

Step 4:
Go to Effects-->Geometric Effects-->Circle

Step 5:
Now it's time to make this into the egg shape using the Perspective
Vertical tool in PSP. Go to Effects-->Geometric Effects--Perspective
Vertical and type in MINUS 28. Press okay and save.

Step 6:
Repeat Step 5 but this time type make the % Difference Plus 28. Now
it's time to color your egg. Go to Effects-->Plugins-->Harry's
Filters-->Harry's Filters and use the colorize selection. You can
either press randomize to get the color you want or you can apply the
color I used by applying this settings.

Step 7:
Set your foreground color to a complementary color from your egg. I
used #98CDC1. Pick up you selection tool set at rectangle and draw a
large rectangle around your egg and select it. The marching ants will
be around your egg and doing it this way will help prevent jaggies.
Go to Selections-->Modify-->Contract and enter 70. Flood Fill
and keep selected.

Step 8:
Go to Selections-->Float (Ctrl+F) and apply the following cutout
(Effects-->3D-->Cutout).

Keep selected and reapply the cutout but change the
vertical and horizontal offsets to Minus 2. Keep selected. Go to Selections-->Promote
to Layer. Save.
Step 9:
Pick up your selection tool and draw another rectangle around the middle
of your egg and select it. Go to Selections-->Modify-->Contract
by 5. Go to Selections-->Invert and click on the outer ring of the
middle of your egg to get the marching ants moving.

Step 10:
Go to Effects--Plugins-->Flaming Pear-->Silver and apply the following
settings. If you have chosen a different color for your egg you may
either want to change the color or click the dice button and see what
will look good for you.

When you are satisfied click OK and save.

Step 11:
Go to Layers-->Merge-->Merge Visible. We don't have too much to
do now and we'll have our beautiful egg. Go to Selections-->Modify-->Contract
by 2 and then Selections-->Modify-->Feather by 4. Apply the following
Inner Bevel and save:

Your egg is done and I must say it looks quite nice
doesn't it? I wanted a little decoration in the middle so I applied
the Holly. If you would like to add Holly to yours open the Holly tub
that you downloaded and unzipped above and export it into your tubes.
Naturally you can use a tube of your own if you wish to decorate it.
Step 12:
If decorating your egg add a new layer. Go to your tubes and select
your Holly (or whatever tube you prefer). I set mine at 30 and added
it in the middle of the egg. The Holly already has a drop shadow so
you don't need to do anything with it. Pretty easy wasn't it?
Step 13:
Merge your layers and tube your egg if you would like and/or add a background
to it for sending to a group.
Here is another one that I did.
