After I wrote the Black
and White Blending Magic tutorial, I decided to do some
more experimenting with different effects. Once again I was
quite pleased with the results and wanted to share the technique
with you. This time I started with a colored pictured and
with the use of PSP Tools and the Eliminate Black plugin I
created a stunning picture. This tutorial will show you how
you can do the same. We will be using Greyscale, Textured
Effects, Reflection Effects, Cutout, Inner Bevel, Buttonize
and Blending Modes in PSP. Depending on the graphic you choose
to use, your frame could look quite different than the one
above. That's what makes this fun and uniquely yours.
My tutorials are only guidelines to help
you accomplish a certain creation. Please feel free to be
inventive and take whatever liberties you would like. I encourage
each of you to do your "own thing" and make your
creation yours! Your finished creation is yours to do with
as you please.
Screenshots are resized and compressed for
faster loading. Don't forget to SAVE your work often.
This tutorial is written in and for PSP Version
7.04 and assumes you have a working knowledge of PSP at a
beginners level. I am sure this can easily be done in Version
6 with a few adjustments in paths but I have only used Version
7 so I can't make promises *S*
FOR THIS TUTORIAL YOU WILL NEED:
JASC's PSP (30 day free trial)- You can get it HERE
Eliminate Black ~~ You can get it HERE
A Graphic ~~ A floral graphic works very nicely with this
tutorial. I am using a picture of a rose from my garden. I
am more than happy to share this rose with you. Please right
click on the graphic and save it to your hard drive.

Step 1:
Open your graphic in PSP and make a copy of it (Shift+D).
The main reason for making a copy is in case I want to use
the image again and forget to change the name when I save
*S* You can close out your original graphic.
Step 2:
Resize your graphic to 342 pixels on the longest side. Make
sure that resize all layers and Maintain aspect ratio is checked.

Step 3:
Go to Layers-->Promote to Layer. We now want to change
our graphic to black and white. Go to Colors-->Greyscale.
Go to Colors--> Increase Color Depth-->16 Million Colors.
Step 4:
Go to Layers-->Duplicate. We will be working on the duplicated
layer. We want to eliminate the black on the duplicated copy
so go to Effects-->Plugins-->Transparency-->Eliminate
Black. Click OK. I won't show on your image that the black
has been eliminated unless you hide your original layer. You
will see it in the next step though. :-)
Step 5:
Go to Effects-->Texture Effects-->Sculpture. Using the
#1 Gold Pattern, your number may be different if you have
added patterns to your Pattern folder, apply these settings.
Save.

This is how my rose looked after applying
the Sculpture.

Step 6:
Activate your Layers Palette. On your duplicated layer, change
the blend mode to screen.

I wanted to sharpen the graphic. Go to Effects-->Sharpen-->Sharpen.
Do this twice. Save.

Step 7:
Make a copy of your graphic (Shift+D). On your copy change
the blend mode from Screen to Hard Light. Sharpen twice. Minimize
your graphic, we will be using it shortly.

Step 8:
Make sure you are on your original image, the one with
the layer blend at Screen. Go to Layers-->Merge-->Merge
Visible. Go to Image-->Resize. Resize your merged layer
by 85%. Make sure that all layers is UNchecked.

Step 9:
Change your foreground Styles to Pattern.
Use your copied (hard light) graphic for the pattern.
Using your Magic Wand (Tolerance and Feather
= 0) select the transparent border around your graphic. You
will get the Marching Ants around your border. Floodfill with
your pattern.
Step 10:
Go to Selections-->Invert. Selections-->Float (Ctrl+F).
Effects-->3D-->Cutout and apply the following settings.

(Offsets=8; Opacity=71; Blur=35; Shadow Color=C8A14E)
Reapply the cutout, but this time change
the offsets to Minus 8. Keep Selected and Save.
Step 11:
Go to Selections-->Invert. Effects-->Reflection Effects-->Rotating
Mirror. Apply the following settings. Keep selected and save.

(Offset and Rotation angle=0)
Go to Effects-->3D-->Inner Bevel and
apply the following settings:
Deselect and Save.
Step 12:
We are just about done! Change your background color to the
color you would like your outer border. I used the same color
as the cutout shade, #C8A14E. Go to Image-->Border. Make
sure that symmetric is checked, add a border of 4 pixels.
Go to Effects-->3D-->Buttonize and add the following
settings.

(Height and Width=8; Opacity=70; Transparent Edge checked)
You are done and what a gorgeous graphic
you now have. *smiles*
I mentioned earlier that your frame would
look different depending on the graphic you used. Here is
one that I did using a rose from Webshots. Thank you Terri
for sharing this rose with me.

I hope that you have enjoyed this tutorial
as much as I did creating it. A huge thank you to my testers,
Suz; Suecat; Beckie; Elkay and Terri.
