This tutorial is written for Lynn92250, who requested a tutorial showing beginners how to put a graphic within a frame picture tube. I was honored when Lynn asked me to do this tutorial, and apologize that it has taken me so long to honor her request.

There are many sites that have picture tubes available for you to download, and frame picture tubes seem to be very popular now. If you type in "frame tubes PSP" in a search engine, such as Google, you will find many of these available for you. I was thrilled when my friend, Cody, shared one that she had made and has allowed me to share this tube with you for this tutorial. I will also show you how to make your creation as a transparent gif using the gif optimizer in PSP. As you can see by my results above, this can be easily done. I will also be giving instructions for using this frame tube, you may need to adjust some of the settings when using a different frame.

My tutorials are only guidelines to help you accomplish a certain creation. Please feel free to be inventive and take whatever liberties you would like. I encourage each of you to do your "own thing" and make your creation yours!

Screenshots are resized and compressed for faster loading. Don't forget to SAVE your work often.

This tutorial is written in and for PSP Version 7.04 and assumes you have a working knowledge of PSP and filters at a beginners level. I am sure this can easily be done in Version 6 with a few adjustments in paths but I have only used Version 7 so I can't make promises *S*

You will need:
JASC's PSP (30 day free trial) ~~ You can get it HERE
A Frame picture tube ~~ If you would like to use the one that I used you can get it HERE
**This is in PSP format. Open it in your workspace.
A graphic ~~ I used a graphic from Clip Art Today. It's a beautiful wedding picture that I thought would look wonderful in this frame. If you would like to use the same graphic please right click and save to your hard drive.

Step 1:
Open your graphic in PSP and make a copy of it (Shift+D). The main reason for making a copy is in case I want to use the image again and forget to change the name when I save *S* You can close out your original graphic. Remember to save often.

Step 2:
Open your frame tube in PSP. To convert your frame tube to a picture tube, with your frame tube active - go to Files-->Export-->Picture Tube. The following popup will appear. Type in the exact name of the tube and click OK.

You may now close your frame tube.

Step 3:
Open a new image 275x350, 16 million colors, transparent background. Go to Layers-->New Raster Layer and name it frame. Active your picture tube, , and scroll to your frame tube. I set my scale to 90.

Place your cursor at coordinates 137,175, this is the middle of your image, and left click your mouse. You will find your coordinates in the lower left corner of your work area.

Step 4:
Activate the graphic that you are using. Using your selection tool, , set at Ellipse; feather=0; Antialias checked; draw an ellipse around the part of your graphic that you would like in your frame. Be careful not to make it too much larger than your opening or your perspective will be off.

Step 5:
Go to Edit-->Copy (Ctrl+C). Activate your Frame Image, make sure you are on the frame layer. Pick up your Magic Wand and click on the blank center of your frame, you will see marching ants around the inside of your frame. Go to Selections-->Modify-->Expand and enter the number 2.

Step 6:
With your ants still marching, activate layer1 on your layer palette. Go to Edit-->Paste-->Into Selection.

Keep selected. Add a new layer and name it cutout. Go to Effects-->3D-->Cutout and apply the following settings:

Offsets = l0; Opacity = 59; Blur = 40; Shadow Color = Black; Fill interior UNchecked

Reapply your cutout, but this time change the Vertical and Horizontal Offsets to MINUS 10. Deselect (Ctrl+D) and Save.

Step 7:
Add a new layer and name it highlight. Set your foreground styles color to White and your background styles to Null. Activate your draw tool, , set at Freehand; Width = 6; Antialias checked; Create as vector and Close Path UNchecked.

Draw to small lines on your cutout, similar to what I have below.

Step 8:
Go to Effects-->Blur-->Gaussian Blur and use a setting of 4.55, or whatever you are happy with. Click OK and save.

Step 9:
You are basically done with your creation now. That wasn't so hard was it? I did do one more thing before merging my layers. I thought that the graphic was a tad to dark for this frame so I went to the layer palette and reduced the opacity on layer1 to 80.

Step 10:
Go to Layers-->Merge-->Merge Visible. Save.

Step 11:
I thought that this turned out so exquisitely that I wanted to save it as a transparent gif instead of on a background. Go to File-->Export-->Gif Optimizer. You will receive the following screen.

Click on the Use Wizard.

Use existing transparent areas is the default. Click next.

Even though I was using this white swirl background I left the background color that was already on my color palette. Click next.

PSP defaults to Yes, use Web-safe colors only. I always choose No, choose the best colors. If you leave it at the default of yes, you are more like to get little bumps on your graphic. Click next.

I always choose the Better image quality and size. Click Next.

The last frame shows you how your graphic will look. Notice that there are no bumps on the graphic, no black lines around the frame and it is transparent. ~smiles~

When you activate your browser, in PSP, it will appear that it is not transparent and that the background you have chosen shows. However, as you can see at the top of this tutorial, it is in fact transparent. I wanted to show you how it looked in my browser so you won't panic and think you have done something wrong.

I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial as much as I did creating it.

A big thank you to the PSP_Dynasty's Tutorial Testing team for testing this tutorial for me.
