While playing around with different effects
in PSP I came up with this frame in a frame. When I used a
floral graphic I thought about having the flowers intertwined
around the inner frame and was quite pleased with the effect.
When I showed it to my friend, Suz, she insisted that I write
a tutorial for it. *grin*
When I first did this, I thought a floral
arrangement would be the best graphic to use, but, as you
can see in my examples below, there are a number of graphics
that you can use. You can use the Silver filter from Flaming
Pear, Ulead Art Texture or (Super)Blade Pro for your frame.
The possibilities are endless! I used the Basic Glass from
Blade Pro for this tutorial.
My tutorials are only guidelines to help
you accomplish a certain creation. Please feel free to be
inventive and take whatever liberties you would like. I encourage
each of you to do your "own thing" and make your
creation yours!
This tutorial is written in and for PSP Version
7.04 and assumes you have a working knowledge of PSP and filters
at an intermediate level. I am sure this can easily be done
in Version 6 with a few adjustments in paths but I have only
used Version 7 so I can't make promises *S*
You will need:
JASC's PSP (30 day free trial)- You can get
it HERE
OPTIONAL:
Flaming Pear's Designer Sextet Series ~~ You can get the trial
download HERE
Super Blade Pro ~~ You can purchase it or get the demo version
HERE
ULead's Art Texture - You can get the free version
HERE
**When executing the setup the program
will look for Photoshop on your computer to install Art Texture.
Click on the Browse button and navigate to your PSP PLUGINS
FOLDER and install Art Texture there. If you don't do this
the program will not work properly for you.
A Graphic ~~ I used a floral graphic from Free
Stock Photos You may use their graphics as long as you
leave their name in the graphic and/or provide a link. You
may use the graphic provided below. Please right click on
the graphic and save to your hard drive.

Step 1:
Open your graphic in PSP and make a copy of it (Shift+D).
The main reason for making a copy is in case I want to use
the image again and forget to change the name when I save
*S* You can close out your original graphic. Remember to save
often. Depending on the size of the graphic you use, go to
Images-->Resize. Resize your image to what you want your
finished creation to be. For example, the graphic I used was
resized to 350 pixels on the longest side.Make sure pixel
size is checked and resize all layers and maintain ratio aspect
are checked. My tutorial tester, Randie, pointed out to me
that I should direct you to my RESIZE
tutorial. You will want to make sure that you check this out
so you resize your graphic, yet retain clarity.
Step 2:
Open a new image to the size of your graphic, 16 million colors,
transparent background. Name this layer frame. My graphic
was 350x261. Set your foreground color to white. Go to Selections-->Select
All (Ctrl+A). Selections-->Modify-->Contract. Enter
the number 25. Click OK.

Step 3:
Go to Selections-->Invert. Flood Fill with your foreground
color. Go to Effects-->Plugins-->Flaming Pear-->Super
Blade Pro and navigate to the Basic Mirror preset. Click OK.

Keep selected. Go to Effects-->3D-->Inner
Bevel and apply the following settings:

Keep Selected. Go to Edit-->Copy. (Ctrl+C)
Deselect and Save.
Step 4:
Go to Edit-->Paste-->As A New Layer (Ctrl+L). Go to
Images-->Rotate and rotate your layer to the Right, 90
degrees, all layers UNchecked.

Step 5:
Go to Images-->Resize. Resize by 70%, all layers UNchecked.
Rename this layer inner frame. *Note: Depending on your graphic
size, you may need to adjust the percentage that you resize
your inner frame layer.*

Save and your image should look like this.

Step 6:
Go to Layers-->Add a New Raster Layer, name it Picture.
Go to Layers-->Arrange-->Send to Bottom. Activate your
frame layer and with your magic wand (tolerance and feather
= 0) click on the transparent section of your image. While
selected, activate your picture layer, go to Selections-->Modify-->Expand.
Enter the number 1. Keep selected.

Step 7:
Activate your graphic, go to Edit-->Copy (Ctrl+C). Go back
to your frame image, make sure you are on the picture layer
and go to Edit-->Paste-->Into Selection. Keep Selected.

Step 8:
Go to Selections-->Float (Ctrl+F). Effects-->3D-->Cutout
and apply the following settings:

Keep selected. Apply the cutout again, but
this time change the Vertical Offset to 9 and the Horizontal
Offset to 5. Deselect and Save.
Step 9:
Make sure that your picture layer is active. Go to Layers-->Duplicate.
Layers-->Arrange-->Bring to top. This will cover the
inner frame, so go to your layer palette and reduce the opacity
of your Copy of Picture Layer to about 52.

Your image should look similar to this:

Step 10. Activate your Eraser Tool with these
settings:

Activate your Inner Frame Layer and carefully
start erasing the parts of the inner frame that will have
your flowers, or whatever you want your graphic to overlap,
show over the frame. Occasionally close the Copy of the Picture
Layer to see your progress, and then open it again. You can
do this by going to the layer palette and clicking on the
eye glasses. A Red X will appear on the glasses.
Feel free to change the size of your eraser
and to use the undo (Ctrl+Z) if you erased just a bit more
than you intended to.
Step 11:
When you are satisfied with your erasing, close the Copy of
the Picture Layer and clean up any extra stray pixels that
might be remaining from the inner frame. When you are confident
you do not need this layer any more, delete it. Go to Layers-->Merge-->Flatten
and save as a jpg.
Here are some of the others that I did. One
using the Silver preset and one using Ulead. I also did a
Native American graphic and am quite pleased with the turnout.

Silver using the Bonobo preset

Using a Ulead Art Texture Preset
Using a Native American Graphic that I had. I used the
same Basic Glass preset, but changed the bmp picture.
I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial as
much as I did creating it.
