Everyone loves frames, and the easier the better.
When I stumbled on how easy it was to do this, I was almost embarrassed
to write a tutorial. I decided to embellish the frame just a bit,
and was quite pleased with the final results. We will be using one
of my all time favorite filters, the Silver Filter from Flaming Pear's
Designer Sextet Series, and a Floral Ding from The Font Freak.
My tutorials are only guidelines to help you accomplish
a certain creation. Please feel free to be inventive and take whatever
liberties you would like. I encourage each of you to do your "own
thing" and make your creation yours! Your finished creation is
yours to do with as you please.
Screenshots are at 50% and compressed for faster
loading. Don't forget to SAVE your work often.
This tutorial is written in and for PSP Version 7.04
and assumes you have a working knowledge of PSP and filters at an
intermediate level. I am sure this can easily be done in Version 6
with a few adjustments in paths but I have only used Version 7 so
I can't make promises *S*
You will need:
JASC's PSP (30 day free trial)- You can get it HERE
Flaming Pear's Designer Sextet Series ~~ You can get the trial download
HERE
My Silver Preset ~~ You can get it HERE
**If you have done my frame tutorials, you may possibly have this
preset already**
**unzip into your Silver Presets folder in your Sextet Folder
My Inner Bevel Preset ~~ You can get it HERE
**unzip into your PSP Presets Folder
Florals2 Ding ~~ You can get it HERE
**You can also use any ding that you might already have on your computer.
It is not necessary to unzip into your font folder. Create a new folder
on your hard drive and call it Fonts, unzip into that folder. Prior
to opening up your PSP, open your font. Minimize it. Open your PSP
and when it is time to use your text tool, you will find that font
in your list.
This Gold Pattern ~~ Right click and save it to your hard drive.
Open it in PSP and minimize it.
A Graphic ~~
The graphic I used came from Art Today. It is a picture
from Big Sur, California.
Step 1:
Open your graphic in PSP and make a copy of it (Shift+D). The main
reason for making a copy is in case I want to use the image again
and forget to change the name when I save *S* You can close out your
original graphic. Remember to save often.
Step 2:
Resize your graphic to 350 pixels on the longest side. Go to Image-->Resize.

Go to Layers-->Promote to Layer. This is very
important or the next step will not turn out properly.
Step 3:
Go to Image-->Resize. Resize your image by 75%, make sure Resize
all layers is UNchecked.

Step 4:
Using your magic wand, click on the transparent area around your picture.
Flood fill with any color. Go to Effects-->Plugins-->Flaming
Pear-->Silver. To get to the md-goldstrip preset that I made, click
on the red arrow
and
navigate to your Silver Presets Folder and open the md-goldstrip preset.
Press OK.
Keep Selected.
Step 5:
Go to Selections-->Invert. Selections-->Float Effects-->3D-->Cutout.
Apply the following settings.

Reapply the cutout, but this time change the vertical
and horizontal offsets to Minus 3. Keep Selected.
Step 6:
Go to Selections-->Invert. Go to Effects-->3D-->Inner Bevel
and apply the md-3Dframe preset. Deselect and Save. You are basically
done with your Easy 3D Frame. Continue on to Step 7 if you would like
to add a ding.
Step 7:
Add a new layer. Make your foreground color Null. Open your Background
to Patterns.
Scroll
up to the Gold Pattern fill that you opened earlier.

Activate your text tool. I used Florals2, size 24,
floating and antialias checked and typed in the letter e. Keep selected.

Go to Image-->Rotate. Rotate to the left, 90 degrees.
Make sure all layers is UNchecked. Use your mover tool to place it
on your frame, deselect and save.

Step 8:
Go to Effects-->3D-->Inner Bevel and apply the same Inner Bevel
as you did for the frame.
Step 9:
Go to Effects-->3D-->Drop Shadow and apply the following settings.

(Offsets = 2; Opacity = 56; Blur=17.3)
This is how my floral looked.
Step 10:
Open your layer palette. On your ding layer (layer2), change the blend
mode to Multiply.

This is how my frame looked after the multiply.

Step 11:
While on layer2 (your ding layer), go to Layers-->Duplicate. Image-->Mirror.
You may now go to Layers-->Merge-->Merge All (flatten) and save
as a .jpg file.
I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial as much as
I did creating it.
