I am thrilled and delighted to be one of the first
to announce a brand new filter from Philipp Spoëth, the creator
of Sinedots Shader, Retrodots, and Sinedots II. flAIR is not
a free plugin, although I have found the price ($55.00 for a private
license) to be quite reasonable. There is a demo version, however
you are unable to apply it to your application.
flAIR includes the following filters; Amiga
Rulez, Box Blur, GlasSphere, Glow, Highlight, Mosaic Plane, Radial
Blur, and Volumetrics. You can apply the filters individually or use
multiple filters, as I did on the graphic above.
This tutorial will show you how to install the flAIR
plug-in and some of the effects that each of the filters can do.
Screenshots are resized and compressed for faster
loading. Don't forget to SAVE your work often.
This tutorial is written in and for PSP Version 7.04
and assumes you have a working knowledge of PSP and Filters at an
Intermediate level. I am sure this can easily be done in Version 6
with a few adjustments in paths but I have only used Version 7 so
I can't make promises *S*
FOR THIS TUTORIAL YOU WILL NEED:
JASC's PSP (30 day free trial) ~~ You can get it HERE
flAIR Plugin ~~ You can purchase it HERE
Installing flAIR
All purchases are licensed to you and you only, you
are granted a non-exclusive and nontransferable right to use the software
for private purposes only. If you want to use this product commercially
you will need to apply for a Professional License. After you have
purchased your plugin, you will receive an e-mail with the url where
you can download YOUR zip file. You will also receive your personal
flAIR key attached in your e-mail If you have followed my Installing
Plugins in PSP7 tutorial, you have a separate Plugins folder on your
computer, outside of PSP. Unzip your file into your Plugins Folder.
It is not necessary to create a new folder for flAIR, as the
zip creates one for you. After you have unzipped your file, go back
to your e-mail and save your key into that folder.

flAIR has a very large preview screen, similar
to Sinedots II. Your screen area will need to be larger than 800x600
for you to see the entire preview screen when you are using the flAIR
plugin. To change your screen resolution, right click anywhere on
your Windows desktop. Click on properties.

Click on the Settings tab and adjust your screen
area to more. I have mine set at 1024 by 768 pixels. Click OK. Windows
will reset your desktop. Don't be shocked! It will give you the impression
that your desktop has shrunk, as your icons will be a lot smaller.
You can always change it back to a smaller screen area (larger icons)
when you are done using your filter, if you so desire. Your properties-->settings
will more than likely look different than the screenshot below. I
have a dual monitor setup (thank you Larry! *grin*) where most of
you will only have one monitor.

Each of the individual filters has unique settings
and presets in .cfg extension. At the bottom of the settings screen
you are able to randomize, reset, undo, redo, open, delete or save
a .cfg file. Some of the filters have a handle on the preview screen,
not all of them do however. If the plugin you are using does have
one, you are able to hide the handle by checking the hide handle box
~ if you desire to do so.

After you use one of the filters, it will remember
your last used settings when you reopen it. To start fresh just press
reset, it will revert to the original settings of that filter.
To open the .cfg files, press the open button that
you see on the screenshot above. Navigate to your plugins folder -->flair
folder--->configurations. Highlight the plugin you are using and
press open. To see the presets for each filter, press the down arrow
next to the white box.

To save a new setting, press save and a pop up window
will appear. Type in a unique name for your new setting and click
OK. It will now appear in the drop down menu.

To use the flAIR plugin in PSP, open an image
and go to Effects-->Plugins-->Frischluft and click on the filter
that you would like to use.

Okay, let's see what we can do with these filters.
I will show you the different settings and presets for each filter.
I also have a graphic of what some of the effects will do. I have
used a picture that was taken of the hibiscus at my friends house.
The effects are applied to the entire graphic, unless otherwise stated.
Keep in mind that you can select certain pieces of a graphic to apply
one of the filters to, such as I did with the opening graphic. On
some of the filters I did a little playing *smiles*, and have those
results below and on the following pages.

Original Graphic
Amiga Rulez
This effect has also been called Zoom Rotator. When
you first open your Amigo Rulez these are the parameters you have
in your preview window.

You have drop downs for the outside X assume and
the outside Y assume. You can use border color, mirror image or repeat
image. When you open your .cfg file you will receive the following
presets: Closeup Mirror; fade to black; Poison Rays; simple and White
Horizon.
Closeup Mirror

fade to black

Poison Rays

Simple

White Horizon
Here is one that I did by playing with the sliders
and dials. I added a tube and one of my precious cats ~~ "Princess
U-Turn".

I normally try to keep my tutorials to one page,
but this is so graphic intense I have it on 3 pages. To see what else
we can do with flAIR, click on the globe below.
