This is my creation, any similarity to other tutorials

Please do not copy or place this tutorial
or any graphics to any other place without written permission
directly from me. Thank you.

I was inspired to write this tutorial by
a suggestion from Nancy S., who is a member of PSP
Magic with me. The idea changes a black and white image
into blue and gold using the Gold Sculpture effect in PSP
and changing the blend mode to difference. Of course, I had
to experiment with other sculpture effects and different blend
modes *smiles*. I was so pleased with the results that I decided
to write a tutorial. I also include a Fine Leather frame at
the end.
My tutorials are only guidelines to help
you accomplish a certain creation. Please feel free to be
inventive and take whatever liberties you would like. I encourage
each of you to do your "own thing" and make your
creation yours! Your finished creation is yours to do with
as you please.
Screenshots are resized and compressed for
faster loading. Don't forget to SAVE your work often.
This tutorial is written in and for PSP Version
7.04 and assumes you have a working knowledge of PSP at a
beginners level. I am sure this can easily be done in Version
6 with a few adjustments in paths but I have only used Version
7 so I can't make promises *S*
FOR THIS TUTORIAL YOU WILL NEED:
JASC's PSP (30 day free trial)- You can get it HERE
A Black & White Graphic ~~ I used a graphic that I found
on Art Today. It is a picture from Monterey, California. If
you would like to use the same image, please right click on
the image and save it to your hard drive.

Step 1:
Open your graphic in PSP and make a copy of it (Shift+D).
The main reason for making a copy is in case I want to use
the image again and forget to change the name when I save
*S* Minimize your original graphic, as we will be using it
for the Fine Leather Frame. Remember to save often.
Step 2:
If your image is large you will want to resize it to no larger
than 350 pixels at the longest side. Go to Images-->Resize.

Go to Effects-->Sharpen-->Sharpen.
This will clarify your image.
Step 3.
Depending on your graphic, you may have to increase the colors
to 16 Million Colors (24-bit). Go to Colors-->Increase
Color Depth-->16 Million Colors. If using the same graphic
that I am, you will need to do this.
Step 4:
Go to Layers-->Promote to Layer. Layers-->Duplicate.
You will be working on the duplicated layer.
Step 5:
Go to Effects-->Texture Effects-->Sculpture. There are
many patterns that you can choose from in the Patterns drop
down menu; Gold, Jade, Copper, etc. To get a gold and blue
effect, as was mentioned at the beginning of the tutorial,
use the Gold Pattern. For this tutorial I am using the Craggy
pattern that comes with PSP. Depending on if you have added
patterns to your PSP Patterns Folder, your number for the
Craggy preset could be different.

I used the following settings.

This is how my graphic now looked after applying
the Sculpture.

Step 6:
Pretty ugly isn't it? Let's apply some "magic".
Activate your layer palette. On your Duplicate Layer, let's
experiment with the blend modes.
When you use the Difference Blend your image
will now look like this.

Here are some different effects you can achieve
by using a different Blend Mode.
This is how it would look if you did use
the Gold Pattern and the Difference Blend Mode.

Now you can see why I call this Magic! *grin*
PSP is an amazing program, with a little experimentation you
will be amazed at what you can come up with.
Step 7:
I added a Fine Leather frame using the original black and
white graphic. Go to Layers-->Merge-->Merge Visible.
Change your foreground Styles to Pattern.
Use your original graphic for the pattern.

Change your background color to White.
Step 8:
Go to Image-->Resize. Resize your merged layer by 85%.
Make sure that all layers is UNchecked.

Step 9:
Using your Magic Wand (Tolerance and Feather = 0) select the
transparent border around your graphic. You will get the Marching
Ants around your border.

Floodfill with your Pattern. Keep selected
and Save.
Step 10:
Go to Effects-->Texture Effects-->Fine Leather and apply
the Custom 3 Preset. Keep Selected.

Step 11:
Go to Selections-->Invert. Selections-->Float. Effects-->3D-->Cutout
and apply the following settings.

(Offsets=5; Opacity=66; Blur=18.8; Shadow Color=Black)
Apply your cutout again, but this time change
your Vertical and Horizontal Offsets to Minus 5. Keep Selected.
Step 12:
Go to Selections-->Invert Effects-->3D-->Inner Bevel.
Apply the following settings.
Deselect (Ctrl+D) and Save. Add your watermark
and you are finished.
I hope that you have enjoyed this tutorial
and that you learned how powerful the Blend Mode can be. I
want to thank Suecat, Suz, Beckie, Terri and Elkay for testing
my tutorials. They are the ones that help make me look good!
*grin*
