This
tutorial
is
dedicated
to
Mrsshopgirl,
who
many
months
ago
requested
that
I
write
a
tutorial
on
making
a
Butterfly.
There
are
several
tutorials
that
show
you
how
to
make
a
butterfly.
Not
wanting
to
step
on
anyone's
toes,
I
waited
until
I
figured
out
a
unique
way
to
do
this.
Thank
you
Deb
for
giving
me
the
inspiration
to
create
this
tutorial
for
you.
We
will
be
using
only
PSP
to
create
our
butterfly.
We
will
be
using
JASC's
Fire
tub,
geometric
effects,
preset
shapes
and
the
draw
tool.
You
could
also
use
this
tutorial
for
making
Angel
Wings.
In
order
to
save
download
and
printing,
I
have
thumbnails
of
the
screenshots.
If
you
click
on
the
thumbnail
it
will
take
you
to
a
large
version
of
the
screenshot.
This
is
something
new
that
I
am
doing
and
would
appreciate
your
comments
and
feedback.
Don't
forget
to
SAVE
your
work
often.
My
tutorials
are
only
guidelines
to
help
you
accomplish
a
certain
creation.
Please
feel
free
to
be
inventive
and
take
whatever
liberties
you
would
like.
I
encourage
each
of
you
to
do
your
"own
thing"
and
make
your
creation
yours!
Your
finished
creation
is
yours
to
do
with
as
you
please.
This
tutorial
is
written
in
and
for
PSP
Version
7.04
and
assumes
you
have
a
working
knowledge
of
PSP
at
a
beginners
level.
I
am
sure
this
can
easily
be
done
in
Version
6
with
a
few
adjustments
in
paths
but
I
have
only
used
Version
7
so
I
can't
make
promises

FOR
THIS
TUTORIAL
YOU
WILL
NEED: JASC's
PSP
(30
day
free
trial)-
You
can
get
it
HERE
JASC's Fire Tub ~~
If you do not have it you
can get it HERE
There are several tubes for
you in their Additional Picture
Tubes pack at the bottom of
the page.
Step
1: Open
a
new
image
350x350,
16
million
colors,
transparent
background.
Add
a
new
layer,
name
it
wing1.
Step
2:
Activate
your
picture
tubes,
,
and
navigate
to
your
fire
tube.
Apply
your
fire
tube
all
over
the
bottom
1/3
of
your
image
until
it
looks
something
like
this.
(Don't
forget
to
click
the
thumbnail
to
see
the
larger
screenshot,
if
necessary.)
Step
3:
Go
to
Effects-->Geometric
Effects-->Circle
Step
4:
Go
to
Effects-->Geometric
Effects-->Perspective
Horizontal.
Use
a
setting
of
80.
Step
5:
Go
to
Effects-->Geometric
Effects-->Perspective
Vertical.
Use
a
setting
of
61.
Step
6:
Go
to
Image-->Flip.
Go
to
Image-->Rotate
and
rotate
your
image
45
degrees
to
the
right
-
make
sure
that
all
layers
is
UNchecked.
Step
7:
In
order
to
give
your
wing
more
perspective
and
depth,
we
will
duplicate
the
wing
and
resize
that
layer.
Make
sure
you
are
on
your
wing1
layer,
go
to
Layers-->Duplicate.
While
on
your
copy
of
wing1
layer,
go
to
Image-->Resize
and
resize
by
85%,
making
sure
that
you
have
unchecked
resize
all
layers.
See
the
screenshot
below.
Use
your
mover
tool
to
line
up
your
resized
wing
with
the
first
wing.
Duplicate
your
copy
of
wing1
layer
and
resize
the
copy
of
copy
of
wing1
and
move
it
over
in
the
same
manner.
Step
8:
Activate
your
layer
palette.
Click
on
the
eye
glasses
on
Layer1,
it
will
"hide"
this
layer
by
putting
a
red
X
on
the
eye
glasses.
Make
sure
you
on
the
top
layer.
Go
to
Layers-->Merge-->Merge
Visible.
Rename
this
layer
Wing1.
Have
you
been
saving?
*grin*
Step
9:
While
on
layer
Wing1,
go
to
Layers-->Duplicate.
Rename
this
layer
Wing2.
Go
to
Image-->Mirror.
You
may
need
to
move
your
wing
over
a
tad,
using
your
mover
tool.
Hmmmm,
they
kind
of
look
like
angel
wings
now,
don't
they?
At
this
point
you
COULD
duplicate
your
image
(Shift+D)
and
save
the
copy
as
angelwings.psp
to
use
at
a
later
date.
Here
is
a
ladies
tube
that
I
put
on
it
real
quick
just
to
give
you
an
idea.
Step
10:
Okay,
back
to
the
butterfly
LOL.
In
order
to
spread
the
wings
out
to
look
more
like
a
butterfly
we
need
to
rotate
each
wing.
While
on
your
Wing2
layer,
go
to
Image-->Rotate.
Rotate
by
24
degrees
to
the
right.
Again,
make
sure
that
all
layers
is
UNchecked.
If
for
someone
reason
your
wing
doesn't
rotate
outwards,
change
the
angle
to
the
left.
Now
go
to
your
Wing1
layer
and
rotate
this
wing
by
24
degrees
to
the
left.
If
for
someone
reason
your
wing
doesn't
rotate
outwards,
change
the
angle
to
the
right.
Step
11:
On
your
color
palette,
make
your
foreground
styles
Null,
and
your
background
styles
a
dark
color.
I
used
a
dark
red
(#800000).
Add
a
new
layer,
name
it
body.
Activate
your
preset
shapes
tool,
.
Use
the
ellipse
shape,
antialias
checked,
retain
style
and
create
as
vector
UNchecked.
Draw
out
an
oval
for
the
top
of
your
body.
Step
12:
Go
to
Effects-->3D-->Inner
Bevel
and
apply
the
following
settings::
Step
13:
Go
to
Edit-->Copy
(Ctrl+C).
Edit-->Paste-->As
New
Selection
(Ctrl+E)
and
move
it
under
your
first
oval.
Deselect
(Ctrl+D).
Paste
again
as
a
new
selection
and
move
it
under
your
next
oval.
Deselect
and
Save.
Step
14:
Activate
your
Wing2
layer.
Go
to
Layers-->New
Raster
Layer.
Name
this
layer
antenna1.
Change
your
background
styles
color
to
your
foreground
styles
by
clicking
on
the
double
arrow.
See
screenshot
below.
Activate
your
draw
tool,
using
the
Freehand
Line
setting
with
line
width
set
to
3.
Antialias
checked,
create
as
vector
and
Close
path
UNchecked.
Draw
your
antenna.
Flip
your
colors
so
your
color
is
in
the
Background
styles.
Activate
your
preset
shapes
and
use
the
ellipse.
Holding
down
the
shift
key,
draw
a
small
circle
on
the
end
of
your
antenna.
This
is
what
mine
looked
like.
Step
15:
Go
to
Layers-->Duplicate.
Image-->Mirror.
Using
your
mover
tool,
place
your
duplicated
antenna
to
the
right
of
your
first
one.
Voila!
We're
done!
You
have
now
made
your
own
butterfly
using
only
PSP!
I
saved
my
butterfly
in
layers
so
I
could
do
other
things
with
it,
such
as
colorizing
and
playing
around
with
the
wings
using
the
deformation
tool.
I
also
exported
my
butterfly
as
a
tube.
VARIATIONS
-
You
can
colorize
your
butterfly
using
PSP
or
a
number
of
different
filters
that
colorize.
Here
is
one
that
I
did
using
Harry's
Filters.
If
you
are
adept
with
the
deformation
tool
you
can
click
on
one
of
your
wing
layers,
use
the
deformation
tool
and
just
basically
play
around
with
it
until
you
get
something
that
you
like.
Hide
the
other
wing
layer,
duplicate
your
deformed
layer
and
mirror
it.
Here
is
one
that
I
did
and
then
another
that
was
colorized.
The
possibilities
are
endless!
I
hope
you
have
enjoyed
this
tutorial
as
much
as
I
did
creating
it
for
you.

I
have
now
written
well
over
100
tutorials,
created
brushes
and
tiles.
I
am
in
the
process
of
creating
tubes
and
answer
an
average
of
20-25
e-mails
a
day
requesting
help.
All
of
this
takes
an
enormous
amount
of
time.
I
enjoy
doing
for
others
and
people
seem
to
like
what
I
